I open a B2B website and I know within 30 seconds whether it is going to convert. Five things I check first.

I have built over 850 websites over my 40 years in marketing. That means I’ve seen just about every mistake a business can make online. When I land on a B2B homepage, I don’t need a half-hour to figure out if it works. I can tell in 30 seconds if it’s going to bring in leads or just sit there like a digital paperweight.

Here are the five exact things I check in those first 30 seconds:

  1. The Main Headline: Does it clearly state what you do, or is it full of corporate buzzwords like “delivering synergistic value”? If a customer can’t figure out your offer in 3 seconds, they leave.
  2. The Call to Action: Is there a clear, obvious button telling the visitor what to do next? “Get a Quote” or “Book a Call” works. “Learn More” is weak.
  3. The Proof: Do I see real customer logos, testimonials, or numbers right away? Buyers need to know other people trust you.
  4. The Mobile Layout: More than half of your visitors view your site on a phone. If the text is tiny or buttons are hard to tap, you’re losing deals.
  5. The Load Speed: If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, half your audience gives up before seeing a single word.

Fixing these five things doesn’t require rebuilding your whole site. It just requires focusing on what real buyers actually care about.
